About Youki
I am an enthusiastic conscious creative in fashion and textiles that excels in the development of fashion and textiles, patterns, and different techniques. I brought Boucharouite weaving in an easy-to-do workshop to the Netherlands, with my handmade looms from old painting frames. I love to share and hopes to inspire on my path to keep traditional textiles alive.
Why am I doing what I do?
With traveling I stood straight in front of people working in very bad work conditions in mills and production houses in India. Next to this, I saw the incredible amount of creativity that people have to survive all around the world. This made me driven to do something that is in my own strength.
Something with creativity that brings value. To follow this desire, I came across some good opportunities in the right direction.
This made me work on the project I call 'The Namat Collection'.
Since the end of 2018, I invested, researched, created, and tried and tried. What now slowly comes out to a 'textile makershouse' of Sahara women that control two textile techniques. We aim to start working with designers from Morocco and The Netherlands to use our techniques in their designs, so the women keep on going to have work.
The Namat Collection is breaking patterns to use trash in our materials. We work in a creative way with existing techniques to use waste material. We giving awareness on how to use waste in a valuable design product with our material and products.
My goal is to keep Textile Crafts in life forever and share techniques and stories with everyone. This is why I call myself a conscious creative in Fashion and Textiles. Traditional textile crafts from all over the world are for me the most intriguing inspirations.
