Boucharouite Weaving Workshop

Boucharouite is a carpet weaving technique from Morocco. Boucharouite originated as a positive response to globalization, the mass production of clothing also changed Morocco around 1960. The "cheap" clothing had a much shorter lifespan, as a result of which a new trend emerged in the Berber culture among women for making carpets from these clothing. Because the women made it for their own families, they could tell their own life stories in these carpets. The centuries-old symbols and color meanings of the wool carpets were given a new artistic life in the Boucharouite.
